Graphic design in Andratx, Mallorca.

I've worked both for the Andratx Town Council, designing the poster and programme for the 34th Andratx Fair, and for Bar Central, in Port d'Andratx, with the logo on the menu cover and a menu system in Catalan, Spanish, English and German for the mix of locals and tourists who fill the port.

From the fair poster to the menu of the port bar.

The image for the 34th Fira d'Andratx

The Andratx Town Council commissioned the image for the 2018 fair, an event with 34 editions behind it. I made two pieces that share the same visual language. The first, a poster to hang in the street, with a hierarchy designed so the date and the name can be read from a distance. The second, a pocket programme where I organised activities, times and locations, plus the tapas route with the participating bars and menus. The palette is festive and bright, as befits a popular fair, and it works just as well in large format as in the programme.

Three menus for Bar Central

For Bar Central in Port d'Andratx I designed the logo on the menu cover and a menu system: restaurant, drinks and cakes. In the restaurant menu I grouped the dishes into sections (continental, traditional, natural), set the prices in turquoise and aligned the four languages in columns so every customer finds theirs without getting lost. All three share the circular seal in anthracite grey and the turquoise and grey triangles, so the brand is recognisable at any table.

How we work if your business is in Andratx

A poster is seen from afar and in a hurry; a menu is read sitting down, calmly. That's why, before designing any piece, I ask where it will be seen and who will read it. If you have a shop in the village or a venue in the port, there's no need to come to Palma: we do the briefing by phone and the rest by email. If you'd like to check paper proofs, I meet clients by appointment at Homey Group Mallorca, on Carrer de Miquel dels Sants Oliver. Single pieces, such as a poster or a flyer, start at €60, and a logo at €600.

From a municipal fair with 34 editions of history to a port bar with international customers: Andratx has that double face, the village and the port, and each project calls for a different visual language.

Questions about graphic design in Andratx.

Do you design posters and programmes for a town council's festivals or fairs?

Yes. For the Fira d'Andratx I did the poster and the programme as a single job, which is how it works best: the image is decided once and then adapted to the format of each piece. In the programme what matters is that visitors quickly find what's on, when and where. If the event repeats every year, that image can serve as the basis for the following editions.

How do you organise a bar menu with food, drinks and desserts?

By splitting it when there's a lot of content. For Bar Central I made three menus instead of one overloaded one, each with its own purpose but the same identity. Within each menu I group items into sections that are easy to scan and highlight prices with a colour, so ordering is quick. If the menu is in several languages, it's best to have all the texts translated before the layout starts.

The fair or event has a fixed date. How far ahead should I order the poster?

The sooner the better, because printing and distribution come on top of the design. Usually you write to me with the date, the texts and the format, and we agree the timing and price in writing before starting. If you're short on time, tell me in your first message and we'll adjust.
